Suggested sailing Routes - Datca Peninsula, South of Bodrum

Day 1:Embark at Port Bodrum Marina

Day 2:Ova Buka, 34 miles. After the island near Palamut you see a limestone headland which looks like a turtle lying with its head in the water. Go around the headland, and head north, right up into the cove. Nestled into the corner you'll find a jetty where you can safely moor (harbour charge: approx. 10mTL). 'Ogun's Place' is a restaurant run by Ogun and his sister Semra which serves superb and differing Turkish cuisine. A must for people who like good food! You'll find the family very warm and welcoming. Beware though, their world-wide reputation means that you won't be alone.

Day 3: Koca Bahce, 20 miles. An absolutely beautiful bay where you can moor to the wooden jetty of the restaurant at the head of the bay. The owner Mehmet and his staff will help with the fixed mooring lines or alternatively you may pick up a fixed mooring and take a dinghy ashore. There are no roads here, no electricity and water is pumped from a well. However, this really is a 'Garden of Eden' and the food produced from the little stone building is simply stunning!

Day 4: Datca or Bozburun depending on the weather. You can moor the town quay in both places. (Harbour charge: approx. 15YTL)

Day 5: Palamut, a pretty little fishing harbour with a choice of restaurants and ample facilities. ( Harbour charge: approx. 15YTL). Merhaba restaurant is good for fish.

Day 6: Aspat, approx 30 miles. The bay lies to the west of Bodrum. If there is too much wind, go under engine to Knidos. After rounding Knidos you can sail. Anchor in the bay in around 3-5m with good holding. Note: The winds in this region can get very strong. However, it's commonly much worse coming off the land than in open sea. Once around the Knidos headland, conditions often settle down.

Day 7: Back up to Port Bodrum, 10 miles. Please remember to fill up with diesel. When you enter the harbour call the Marina on channel 73to help you with the mooring lines at the Aura pontoon.
