Just a few minutes stroll away from the small bustling town centre is Port Bodrum, Yalikavak's new Marina. Bodrum
The main town of Bodrum is just 20 minutes by road and a few hours sailing East of Yalikavak Marina. As a place where people have lived continuously for thousands of years Bodrum has an incredibly rich past. Its position in or near so many of the great civilization and events of ancient history also makes Halicarnassus (Bodrum's ancient name) an important site for historians. Finding one source of complete historical information on Bodrum is apparently impossible, so the account that follows is a distillation from several sources.
Two wonderful sites to visit whilst in Bodrum is the castle of St Peter with its many towers and restored to perfection, with a stunning Museum of Underwater Archaeology.
Further along the harbour front tucked in a back street is the Mausoleum The Mausoleum is Bodrum’s oldest antiquity and was built by Artemisia II in honour of her husband King Mausolos. It became one of the wonders of the ancient world, Mausoleum still is the general term for a large tomb. The entire structure stood at over 50 meters in height. The first reliefs from the Mausoleum reached the British Museum in London in 1846, these included frescos and other objects.
Bodrum has many shops and restaurants and is very busy during the high season months of July and August.
